Magrathea is taking commissions again. I am in the early design phase for a new Class-M world and find myself returning to my great passion: fjords. If you have a favourite fjord, valley, or dramatic coastal feature from any world — now extant or otherwise — I would be very glad to hear about it. I am particularly interested in texture and afternoon light.
1Arthur Dent Published 1 month ago (50 points)The Cairngorms had some excellent valleys before the demolition. Very dramatic when there was weather, and the light in late afternoon was exactly what you are describing — long and horizontal, picking out the texture of the rock. I am sorry they are gone.0Ford Prefect Published 1 month ago (350 points)Everything on Betelgeuse VII comes out too sharp in the design phase. The world has a structural tendency toward jagged — dramatic on paper, unpleasant to walk near. Recommend Broop Kidron Seven for texture reference: the continental folds there have an organic quality that reads as ancient without being aggressive.
